Cars in Malaysia
I have personally driven the following cars to either Malacca, KL as well as some to Genting
I own 3 of the cars below and have driven the rest quite a bit. Here are my 2 cents worth:
Alza - Slightly sluggish but does well overall, small space but adequate although fitting 7 adults in for a long drive is tiring for long distance
Had to lower gear to go up Genting but does it well. Cheap to maintain
Innova - Sluggish at first but picks up well on highway, roomy but felt a little under powered when going up steep slopes for Genting
Good for highway but e braking is longer than most of the others. Felt more like a van.
Wish 1.8- Good response and very fast overtaking, cornering is good too. Very good for long drives and highway
Big enough and older Wish has sunroof. Went straight up Genting without needing to go to lowest gear. Sunroof convenient when we could not find available hotel in Genting so found a car park and stayed the nightthere. Very reliable car and even my wife likes it. Was able to overtake almost all the cars listed in a straight run. - Need to revise this probably as others experience with the Wish was not so good.
Estima - Big and roomy, response is slightly delayed but still ok, not as stable as Wish on the highway and cornering can be better. Only went to Malacca with this car so have not tried to go up Genting. Good sunroof and moonroof.
Starex - Biggest and longest car i have ever driven, front/head first parking is not recommended for most car parks. Cornering is not
as good as the other cars but handles very well on the highway and overtakes very well. Very comfortable. Not suitable for Malacca especially smaller roads. A bit noisy on start up but after a minute, it gets better. Felt like a van but a real powerful one and surprisingly does tight turns well as power comes from the real wheels
Vellfire - Short trip only but handles ok, still prefer Wish for its handling but comfort level for passengers is pretty high. Head turner for sure.
Interesting opportunities
Looks like Laguna is a real good place for now, exceeded locals including my expectations of how high they will market it. A bro went over earlier this week, seems like its mostly gone already.
There are still some good shoplots around for those so inclined, the 2 storey shophouses at HH has gone up to 1 m now and most are not selling, preferring to rent.
There are also others but likely only subsale now. Keeping an eye out as i think for certain shoplots, there are still upsides to be gained. :)

Traffic accident
Having a pretty bad week, from trying to rescue neighbours fishes in a false alarm scenario to more tasks at work with lesser resources (less is more anyone?)
For bros who have PMed me, my apologies, already worked 2 days without sleep this week so really tired. Just finished work actually now.
Please bear with me while i share my account of being in a traffic accident and the steps i took. Good for reference in case (touch wood) which is why i am putting this into the main page.
Got into an accident earlier today(well, yesterday now). I just went into HH, changed cars and went to my wifes place.
I was waiting in the middle lane behind other cars for the lights to turn in my favour, suddenly a blue container truck sped past on the left to filter left and part of his container/trailer hit the side mirror of my vehicle. My pregnant wife was sitting right where it roared past. I was so shocked and thankfully she was fine but shaken. I decided to chase the guy as he just drove on without even stopping. My wife told me he was trying to avoid potholes on the left of the road which was why he swerved and his trailer hit me.
When we chased and got to the industrial area, he was so yaya after i managed to find him and shouted at me not to take pictures. Asked me not to come down and some people were gathering. I said i just wanted to do a report and he kept shouting at me. Saying i swerved left but my car was stationary all the time as i was stuck in traffic. Refused to share particulars and just kept raving on and on.
I just ignored him, took some pictures and left. At first thought luckily damage minor, just fix though a bit heartpain as car only got in Jan so still new. Most importantly wife and kid ok. Then went to the dealership workshop and asked for cost, turns out to be 400 plus. So in the end, the dealership guy who kept telling me not to make report told me i should call the guys company and asked for settlement. I asked my staff to call as their company only speaks Malay but their guys told us to go ahead and lodge the report.
So we went to a policestation nearby to make report. Took another 2 hours before report was made. Then the gent dropped the bombshell, that i will need to still go to the Traffic Police near first link. Heart sinking, thought it would be next week before we could close this off. Then the good news, seems the TP is open 24 hours a day. Very kindly provided us drinks though the system did hang and he had to redo the report from all over.
The investigating sergeant at the TP was a bit sceptical at first but i drew out the map, etc of what happened and where my car was positioned. Luckily this gent understands English and with the help of my staff helping as well, we managed to start their investigation.
Lessons learnt and things observed:
Certain people drive like madmen, young men/women with the probation "P" on their windscreens. Even though most of them with this P sign are supposed to keep left on the highways, most still won't.
Quite a few lorry drivers are madmen, no offence to those good ones. According to the people at the station, none were surprised. I am not going to mention race. (Sidetrack - Even with business, we make it a point to hire all races, even when some senior people objected because of prejudices, we always gave other groups a chance. Even though quite a few of them disappear or interview and don't show up, we still continue to believe in the goodness of people.)
One thing we learnt, when you get hit or hit a motorcycle, you will very likely be summoned even if they are in the wrong. We should still
help but do park your car a distance away when trying to help any downed motorcyclists.
My blessed dad once stopped to help out a motorcyclist in Singapore who was hit by a taxi(which ran off) After a year, his kindness
was rewarded by a letter from the motorcyclist company. In it, he was claiming my dads insurance and claimed my dads vehicle
was the one which hit him and caused the accident.
When in doubt, just go and make a report direct at the TP instead of police station as you will save more time that way. In my case,
i don't care who gets summoned, its no longer about the money now.
The TP first floor is to start the reporting process, once done, you will go up to the 2nd floor (not mezzanine floor) where the in charge
will ask you questions, get camera guy to take pictures etc.
Useful tip - Sign up at myeg.com.my and do a search for your car license plate or passport to check if you get any summons.
If you get hit at the back by any car and you are in somewhere you feel unsafe or see a few guys in the car, just drive off. Just drive to any police station or TP to make the report after taking down license plate.

KL, Doha in $2.5b venture
News @ AsiaOne
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his visiting Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Hamad Jassim Jaber Al Thani, announced the fund and several other potential collaborations after their meeting here yesterday.
Both countries will each put US$1 billion into the fund, although Najib said details, including where it would invest, would be decided later.
Sheikh Hamad is on a three-day official visit, his first as prime minister of the Gulf state. He was here in 2006 as first deputy prime minister.
Najib said Sheikh Hamad had also responded positively to a request by Malaysia's Petronas to buy natural gas from Qatar. He said the request was being evaluated.
He also said as Malaysia was scheduled to finish building an offshore gas terminal in July next year, the requirement for more imports of natural gas would increase.
Sheikh Hamad also suggested Malaysia open up a national showroom in Qatar's capital, Doha, as an impetus to attract investment.
"I have agreed to this as a showroom there would allow people from both the state and region to see for themselves and be acquainted with the range of products and services we can offer," said Najib.
Both leaders also discussed the role Qatar Investment could play in the redevelopment of the Sungai Besi land once a master plan by the 1Malaysia Development Berhad was worked out.
Najib also pointed out the possibilities for closer cooperation elsewhere, including in the Iskandar region in Johor, which he said provided vast investment opportunities, as well as possibilities of participating in the development of Langkawi.
"Commitment to implement the Economic Transformation Programme means there are greater investment opportunities for Qatar."
Trade between both countries has been expanding and the first nine months have seen total trade increase by almost 200 per cent, to almost RM3.3 billion, with both countries confident of the volume and range of products traded to increase even further.
Sheikh Hamad said the increase in trade was proof that there was a strong relationship between both countries.
"The momentum must be kept." Both leaders also agreed to work towards ensuring not only greater transparency but also good governance, respect for the law and human rights in the region.
"That is why through leadership of his excellency, we have supported Qatar's initiative and leadership role in the region," Najib said.
Economic cooperation between the two states has grown rapidly, especially within the past five years.
The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), for example, is part-owner of the Pavillion Real Estate Investment Trust that recently raised RM710 million in an initial public offer on Bursa Malaysia.
Last year, QIA entered into a memorandum of understanding with 1Malaysia Development Bhd to participate in a US$5 billion investment plan in the energy and real estate sectors.
Sheikh Hamad will be attending the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition in Langkawi today.
Najib said the Qatari leader would also look at possibilities of participating in development projects on the island.

Columbia Asia Hospital - Thumbs up!
Took my wife and son to the Columbia asia hospital couple of weeks back, was pretty impressed, total just spent 155 for son's fever and wife's condition. Very professional doctors.
Turned out one doc is living at The Gateway too. Pretty nice place. Staff speaks English pretty well and the small cafe has not bad food. The chicken wings, noodles with soup and chicken chop were just some of the things we tried.
Very nice and very professional. I thought i was in one of the private hospitals in Orchard road.
Having regular visits to Mt E, Thomson and Gleneagles in the past, the service was really comparable.
The hospital is a little small though but we were quite happy.
I didn't have great expectations other than the last time we did a quick look but this time, saw their facilities, etc. Not bad and price is good as well and doctors don't seem to be in a hurry to rush you out. Can talk about properties even, one of the doctors from Penang even shook my hand when i went in. Very polite.
Only later found out he is a neighbour in HH.

KSL City - First link area
Not a bad place, small Tesco though. Parking is bad but hey you can use Touch and Go at their carpark.
The only thing that attracts me to KSL is........
The gaming accessories for the XBOX Kinetic/PS3, etc are really really "REASONABLY" priced.
They have wider selection than most places.

Medisave
Some hospitals already allow the use of medisave in Malaysia, not only for Johor but even Malacca as well. Seems quite a number of hospitals already allows but not for outpatient.
